Hospitality Gateways--aka Hotspot Gateway
Hospitality gateways are used to control almost every aspect of a guest user’s experience in hospitality environments. These gateways are extremely versatile and can be used in coffee shops, hotels/motels, multi-tenant units (MTUs), campuses, airports, sports venues and even for municipal wireless applications. A gateway’s primary job is to capture the guest users Internet browser session as soon as they attempt to access the Internet. The guest is then redirected to a customized web page where they either pay to browse the Internet via a credit card or electronically accept terms and conditions of use to mitigate owner/operator liability. But gateways have become much more sophisticated these days.
A highly configurable gateway, such as those by Nomadix, can not only capture and redirect user sessions, but they can also mange the users throughput, block inter-hotspot attacks, manage users sessions, and more. With multiple ways to generate revenue, hotspot or hotzone gateways pay for themselves by enabling services such as:
- Traditional "pay to surf" method where each guest user must enter a credit card in order to surf the web. The gateway allows the set up of multiple plans to fit customer access requirements.
- Portal page advertising allows hospitality mangers to generate revenue from local services and cross-sell hotel services. Every guest is automatically directed to a portal page before they access the internet. Nomadix allows you to customize this series of five pages.
Beyond generating revenue, hospitality gateways can help reduce LAN and WAN expenses. By managing device and user access to the network and Internet. Network administrators can restrict applications such as file sharing software that bog down the LAN and the WAN. Tight control of applications promotes conservation of WAN bandwidth, which, in turn, will save on monthly communications expenses.
