When an overall view of a scene is important and detail is not then a fisheye camera is a good option. However, while it can in some circumstances take the place of multiple fixed cameras, it is always better to have a fisheye camera in addition to your traditional fixed and fixed dome cameras.  This will provide complete situational awareness without losing the detail that will be needed for identification during an incident.  

 

Samsung has release two versions of its popular Fisheye camera, the SNF-7010 and SNF-8010.  We will describe the differences below.

 

The Samsung SNF-8010 is the latest addition to the Samsung fisheye camera series and boasts a new 5MP lens and enhanced day/night functionalities for better overall detail in both day and night scenes.  The 8010 also includes camera side de-warping removing the reliance on server side de-warping support in the VMS.  It is now possible to create a 180 degree panoramic image in camera and send just that image to the video recorder as opposed to having the recording software do it on the fly.  

 

The 8010VM version has a vandal resistant, IP66 rated housing for outdoor use and an M12 connector for mobile applications such as buses or trains.
