Cambium “Elevates” Broadband Wireless Services by Breaking the Chains of Proprietary Networks

New ePMP Elevate software allows wireless broadband providers to upgrade networks with Smart Beamforming and GPS Synchronization without the need for entire network forklift upgrades

Las week, Cambium Networks made a game-changing announcement for the wireless broadband community. They released their new ePMP Elevate software which will allows broadband service providers to upgrade only the Access Point side of a network with any ePMP Access Point and still work with any existing 802.11n client device on the network using a revolutionary software-only upgrade on existing client devices. So, why would you want to upgrade to the Cambium ePMP solution in the first place?

Last year Cambium introduced two key functionalities not found in most affordable CPE solutions—Smart Beamforming and GPS Synchronization. Using narrow, targeted beams to each subscriber rather than traditional wide beams to multiple subscribers, Smart Beamforming technology greatly enhances interference mitigation. The ePMP then uses Intelligent Filtering to help clean up the signals it receives and keep its own transmissions clean.GPS Synchronization minimizes interference generated by the system onto itself, making AP collocation and frequency reuse feasible. By using a stable timing source at every AP in the system, it precisely synchronizes the start of every transmit and receive cycle within the TDD framing structure and greatly enhances network quality.

Basically, Cambium helps deliver one of the most clean, interference-free networks in the industry. The challenge here has been that most wireless broadband providers have large investment in equipment, mounting space and manpower already poured in their networks.Forklift upgrades to deliver these QoS features aren’t financially feasible for most providers. With the new Cambium Elevate software, operators only needs to install a new ePMP Access Point and to load their deployed subscriber modules with ePMP Elevate software via a simple license key load. Your hardware investment is protected, and the existing infrastructure is given a new lease on life to support revenue-generating applications for years to come.

According to Cambium, Elevate is compatible with all 802.11n CPEs, but they have included the following list of CPE devices*:

  • Loco M5 XW
  • Loco M5 XM
  • NanoStation M5 XW
  • NanoStation M5 XM
  • NanoBridge M5 XM
  • Rocket M5 XM
  • Rocket M5 XW
  • Powerbeam M5 300/400 XW
  • Airgrid M5HP XW
  • Airgrid M5 XM
  • NanoBeam M5 XW

*Check Elevate release notes for complete details. More product support coming soon.

ePMP Elevate networks can be managed by cnMaestro™, the cloud-based or on-premise platform that provides end-to-end management, device onboarding, and maintenance support for wireless broadband networks from a single, easy-to-use interface.
